Abstract
The area under consideration represents a part of widespread plains located west of the Nile Valley between Latitudes 25° 50 and 26° 05 N, and longitudes 32° 10 and 32° 30 E.
The present study deals with the evaluation of the groundwater aquifers in Hiw area. The evaluation process included both the hydrogeological and the hydrochemical points of view. The hydrogeological evaluation is mainly depending on the geometry and characteristics of the water bearing sediments and on the groundwater situation. While the hydrochemical evaluation depends on the actual concentration of both the total and individual ions presented in the groundwater samples .In both the mentioned evaluation types the horizontal and vertical variation are taken in consideration..
Physiographically, the area is characterized by an arid to desert climati, where the evaporation and evapotranspiration rates represent an important factor affecting the groundwater regime .So the study included the estmation of the expected evapotranspiration rates using Penman Nomogram The estimated potential evapotranspiration mean for the area is about 4.05 mm/day. This factor must be taken into consideration during the irrigation processes especially if sprinkler irrigation system is used.
According to the satellite image interpretation it is possible to extend the reclamation processes eastwards and westwards, where the soils are simi lar to that presented in the area.
Stratigraphically, The sedimentary sequence at the area is composed of
different rock types belonging to the Eocene, Pliocene, Pleistocene and
