Abstract

Becau se of the wid e spread a ppli cation of quinones a nd their d erivatives in va riou s field s in cl uding use as fungicides, a ntibacterial s, antimalarials, an titumors, anti oxid ants, drugs, vat dyes a nd as laser record ing material s; so a n in vestigation to develop approaches for sy nthesis of so me ary l napht hoq uinone d erivati ves together with other heterocycli c compound s such as oxathiin, quinoxaline, phenazine, phenothia zine, phenoxa zine and i ndol e deri vati ves has been ca rried out. It i s hoped that such new compounds will have certain bi ol ogi cal effects or other applied u ses.

In thi s part of studi es, the abi I ity of 2-ar yl-p-benzoqu inones (2a-e) to und ergo Diels-Alder reaction with a number of dienes was in vestiga ted. 2-Aryl-p-benzoquinones (2a-e) reacted with some dienes, name l y, 2-met h y lbutadiene; 2,3-dimethylbutadi e ne; I ,4-diphen y lbutad i­ ene a n d anthracene to gi ve. 2-a ryl -(6 a nd /or 7)-meth yl-1 ,4-naphthoquin­ ones ( 186-1 89)a.b); 2-aryl-6,7-dimethy l-1 A-naphthoquino ne ( 1 92a.b);
