Abstract

It has been known that bilharziasis mansoni is a very

.serio't1s disease and unfortionately it is endemic in Egypt This disease is dangerous because it might lead to liver fibrosis during several years after the first infection if not diagnosed and treated early.
The liver fibrosis results from the inflammation caused by the eggs deposited by the worms in the liver sinusoids. These eggs secrete an antigen that elicits production of lymphokines by T- lymphocytes by which recruitment of inflammatory •cells occur. The complete h>Tanuloma 1s composed of CD4+, CD8+T cells and few of mast cells, neutrophils, oesinophils, and giant cells, epitheloid cells macrophages, B-cells and fibroblasts. Thus the• granulomatous reaction is of delayed hypersensitivity type.
