Reham Mohamed Aly El-Maghraby;

Abstract

Stuttering is a disorder of speech fluency that interrupts the forward flow of speech. The etiology of stuttering is unknown, though throughout history, medicine has proposed many theories on the cause of st>Jttering. Developmental stuttering typically emerges between ages two and six.and for the fortunate majority, resolves by adulthood. At age of onset more boys stutter than girls. The reason for the change in sex ratio over time is unknown.

As a result of the foregoing controversies, stuttering therapy methods differ. greatly and produce variable degrees of improvement but not cure.
The• aim of the present work is to identify the most reliable method for treatment of stuttering, to study the efficacy of the different types of treatment and to identify selection criteria for decision of the lines of treatment

The study was carried on forty-five children complaining of stuttering, and . ten children as control group. The subjects of the study was divided into three groups, each group will include fifteen children, age range from four
to eight years. All the three groups was subjected to detailed history taking, auditory perceptual assessment, formal language and articulation testing, assessment of stuttering severity using stuttering severity instrument
(SSI-3) for children, psychometric evaluation, spectral analysis and

visipitch analysis.
