Abstract

A total of 480 samples were collected from clinically diseased , freshly dead and apparently healthy ducks of different age and breed
' irrespective of sex. All samples were examined bacteriologically for

isolation of P. multocida and P. anatipestifer either by direct cultivation on defibrinated sheep blood agar and trypticase soy agar media or by injection of 0.1 ml of 18 hours old broth into white Swiss mice for isolation, purification and reisolation of the organisms.

Out of 480 samples examined 19 (3.96%) isolates of Pasteurella spp were recovered , the incidence of P. multocida strains and P. anatipestifer strains were 1.25% and 2.7% respectively. The incidences of isolation were 6.25%, 2.5% and 0.83% of the internal organs, nasophayngeal and nasal cleft swabs respectively. The isolated strains were identified on the basis of colonial morphology, pathogenicity to mice, biochemical reactions and serological identification.
