Sublingual Misoprostol Prior to IUD Insertion in Women with only Previous Caesarian Section: A Randomized Controlled trial

Mohamed Yasien Ahmed Mohamed;

Abstract

Intrauterine Devices (IUDs) are widely used as
reversible contraceptives. Both copper- and
Levonorgestrel-releasing IUDs (LNG-IUDs) are safe, costeffective
in the long term and equally effective.
However, a disadvantage in nulliparous women is that
the insertion of an IUD through a narrow cervix may be
clinically difficult and painful.
By transvaginal ultrasound the cervix of women with a
previous elective caesarean section may resemble the cervix of
nulliparous women.
In an attempt to facilitate IUD insertion for
nulliparous women, off-label use of misoprostol has been
promoted by several sources.
