Trapeziectomy vs Trapeziectomy with Ligament Reconstruction and Tendon Interposition in Management of Trapeziometacarpal Arthritis A systematic Review of Literature

Awab Ali Mousa;

Abstract

Trapeziectomy and trapeziectomy and ligament reconstruction and tendon interposition (LRTI) remain the most commonly used procedures in management of trapeziometacarpal arthritis. LRTI was preferred to avoid complications of trapeziectomy but recent advances in research, long term studies and comparative studies showed insignificant difference in clinical outcome between both procedures and so trapeziectomy regains its place in the management of trapeziometacarpal arthritis as it is rapid, simple and has smaller incision and rare side effects than a more technically demanding procedure as trapeziectomy with ligament reconstruction and tendon interposition
