Abstract


Viral haemorrhagic fever fonn a group of acute fatal diseases in which bleeding is a prominent clinical manifestation. They are caused by ribonucleic acid (RNA) viruses. These viruses include two types, Arthropod-borne and Rodent-borne vtruses.


Arthropod-borne viral haemorrhagic fevers are caused by group of infectious agents that are transmitted by blood-sucking arthropods, which include:


-Flavivil"idae: the viruses are Dengue, Yellow fever, Omsk haemorrhagic fever and Kyasanur-forest disease. Flaviviruses are tansmitted between vetiebrates by mosquitoes and ticks. Dengue haemorrhagic fever is primarily a disease of children under age of 15 years although it may also occur in adults. It is characterized by sudden onset of fever. Yellow fever is an acute, febrile illness characterized by jaundice, proteinuria and haemorrhage.

nyong, Sindbis and Igbo-ora.
