Abstract


Unconscious patient high risk for immobility complications which affect patient prognosis, thus the nurse role is very important to him. The aim of the study was assess nurses' knowledge and performance as well as assess patient physical and psychological status and suggest protocol for care of an unconscious patient.

The present study asked one mam Question Q: What are the different nursing interventions that are provided to unconscious patients at Benha university hospitals?
The sample c ntained 30 adult unconsc1ous patients and their available nurses who give them care (53). The study conducted at Benha university hospital. The tools of data collection were structured questionnaire sheet and observational checklist and patient's, assessment. Results of the study showed that unsatisfactory knowledge and inadequate performance with no statistic8;1 significant difference among
different nurses groups as regards cared patients.


The result of patient assessment sheets indicated that no statistical

difference among different diagnosis.


This study concluded that all nurses needed to improve their knowledge and practice a bout care of unconscious patient. The study recommended exposure of the nurses to an in service training programs and orientation program.
