ASSESSMENT OF REMOTE SENSING CLASSIFICATION' TECHNIQUES AND CHANGE DETECTION FOR UPDATING GIS DATA BASE
Mohamed Ismail Sayed Ahmed;
Abstract
Crop area estimation in Egypt is of vital importance for planning, handling marketing and determining water use efficiency of these crops. The application of Remote Sensing could provide decision-makers with timeless, comprehensive, and accurate information for different crops. This will help Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation to set up reliable and proper agriculture and water policies to solve the problem of over population, hence covering the needs through the increase of production
Remote Sensing can be also utilized in updating small-scale digital maps. New generations of satellites with their high spatial resolution can be used also for producing and updating of medium to large-scale topographic maps. Therefore, Remote Sensing can be used efficiently for updating the spatial component of any GIS system, specially for the land cover and under-ground data that may be easily generated from Remote Sensing images.
