CHEMICAL STUDIES ON THE TREATMENT OF HAZARDOUS LIQUID WASTES•.RY TWO-PHASE TRANSFER

MONA SOLIMAN GASSER;

Abstract

The mam objective of the work presented in this thesis is to study the possible use of membrane technology for the removal ofheavy metals and uramum from aqueous phosphate medium using commercial extractants.
The thesis is classified into three chapters, namely; introduction,

experimental and results and discussion. The first chapter includes basic concepts of liquid membranes, reagent selection procedure, selected extractants and a literature survey which is related to the present study.
The second chapter, experimental, contains detailed infonnation concemmg the chemicals and reagents used. Instrumentation as well as the description of the used hollow fibers and the flat sheet supported liquid membrane cell are outlined. The preparation ofliquid emulsion membrane, LEM stability investigation and permeation techniques are also presented
in detail.
