Abstract


SBAR shift report is acronym for Situation, Background, Assessment and Recommendation where first Situation includes patient name, age, sex, room number and physician name second, Background includes brief details relating to the inpatient history, date/time of admission diagnosis, and any other relevant medical history, third, Assessment includes current vital signs, mental state, fluid balance and others. Finally Recommendation explain what the nurse need from the person who are reporting.
It provides a systematic approach for reporting information in emergency or critical condition and ensuring that facts are communicated appropriately and effectively, preventing a delay in treatment for the patient or in appropriate response to the emergency.
The study aim was to determine the effect of implementing SBAR shift report on quality of reporting of patient care through developing and implementing training program for using SBAR shift report by head nurses and staff nurses working at critical units, evaluating report procedure of staff nurses to staff nurses hand over and head nurses to head nurses handover and evaluating the quality of reporting of patient care. The study was conducted at intensive care units in four hospitals namely Ain Shams University Hospital, Eldemerdash hospital, Pediatric hospital, Maternity hospital
