Physical and Biological Properties of Three Perforation Repair Materials (A comparative study)

Mohamed Mahmoud Samy Ibrahim;

Abstract

This study compared the physical and biological properties of three root repair materials. The materials compared were Biodentine, Micro Mega MTA, and Endosequence root repair material putty consistency. The compared physical properties were solubility and sealing ability. The biological property compared was biocompatibility. The method used to evaluate the solubility was the ISO standard method. Solubility was evaluated after one week and two months. Fluid filtration method was used to compare the sealing ability of the tested materials. As for the biocompatibility the inflammatory response was used for the evaluation.
The results have shown that concerning solubility the least soluble material after one week was Biodentine followed by Endosequence and MTA showed the highest solubility. After two months, there was an interesting finding which was the increase of weight of Biodentine. MTA showed the highest solubility followed by Endosequence with less solubility than MTA.
The sealing ability was tested at two, four, six, eight and ten minutes. The results of sealing ability showed no significant difference between the three tested materials at different intervals of time.
