Studies on Some Heterocyclic Compounds

Abstract

Some new cyanine dyes incorporating furo, thieno and pyrrolo-[2,3-b]-pyrazole and benz [4,5-b; 4•,5•-b ]-bis furo, thieno and pyrolo-4,8-dione moieties were prepared, covering monomethine-, dimethine-, bis dimethine-, trimethine-, di-, tri-mixed -methine- and tetramethine-cyanine dyes. The starting materials and their derived cyanines were identified by elemental analysis, IR, 1 H NMR and mass spectral data. Visible spectral behaviour in 95% ethanol, solvatochromism in pure and mixed solvents and acid-base properties in aqueous universal buffers are investigated and discussed.
