Abstract


The carpal scaphoid is the most frequently fractured carpal bone; considering all injuries to the wrist, it is second only to fracture of the distal radius. Unfortunately, scaphoid injury also has the highest rate of nonunion of any wrist fracture.

Evaluation of operative treatment of un-united scaphoid fractures by bone graft from iliac bone or lower radius.

Surgical anatomy of the scaphoid bone:

The scaphoid is the an irregularly shaped bone, rests in a plane at 45 degrees to the longitudinal axis of the wrist, articular cartilage covers 80% of its surfaces, it has six surfaces, four of which are articular facets, its blood supply comes primarily from the radial artery and distributed from distal to proximal.
