"Studies on Bovine Viral Diarrhea in Sheep and Goats"
Manal Hamdy Mohamed Khafagi;
Abstract
In present study serological survey on 466 sera sample from non vaccinated clinically normal sheep and goats from II Egyptian
governorates for detection of BVDV antibodies 30;9% of the samples
were positive by using blocking EliSA kit. Screening of 186 huffy coat samples for the presence of BVDV from apparently healthy non vaccinated sheep and goats in 6 different Egyptian governorates using ELISA kit and FA revealed that 9.7% and 10.8% of samples were positive respectively. Both tests were able to detect BVDV in 5.9% of the samples, whereas there were some samples revealed positive by FA and negative by ELISA and Vise Versa. II BVDV positive samples by ELISA and FA were tested by indirect IP 9 tested samples only were positive. The 9 positive samples were inculated in MDBK cells for biotyping and propagation. The isolates were of NCP biotype. Identification of the isolates by FA. 5 selected isolates were titerated and characterized. Virus neutralization assay revealed that the demonstrated titers ranged from I: 80 to I: 320. In conculsion the present study, report the prevalence of BVDV antibodies in most of studied governorates and incidence of P.I. sheep and goats in most studied governorates and isolation of BVDV from healthy sheep and goats populations.
