Patterns of Presentation of Cardiac Diseases among patients admitted to Sohag University Hospital

Abstract

Cardiac diseases are costly diseases and represent a serious burden on both public and private systems of financing health care. During the past 20 years there have been major improvments in martatity rates for the various forms of cardiac disases, however, in our locality deaths from cardiac causes represent a gigantic problem and a great percent of cases seems to be negected and represented in advanced conditions [Kholief et al, 1996]. Few studies were done to detect the neglected cardiac patients in Upper Egypt. But, no statistical studies were done to evaluate the prevalence and presentation of different cardiac diseases in our locality.

Our hospital is a new one and it is considered to be the third University Hospital in Upper Egypt and the aim of this work is to study the patterns and presentations of cardiac diseases among patients admitted to it within one year duration from Jan. to Dec. 1995.
