TREATMENT OF MEDICAL LABS LIQUID WASTES
Saher Mahmoud El Sayed Shaykhon;
Abstract
Medical labs discharge their waste water to the general sewarge network without treatment , these waste water contain pathogens causing diaseases(for example HCV, HBsAg). This work aimed at disinffectanting the wastewater generated from medical labs, to be safe to gdischarge in sewerage network .
Our samples are collected from the waste of out patient clinic lab in certain university and the wastewater are tested for :
1-Presence of HBsAg using ELIZA Technique.
2-Presence of pathogenic bacteria.
3-The values of COD, BOD.
4-After that, the waste is treated by chemical disinffectants (Ethylalcohol, Chlorine, Formalline, Cidex, H2O2, Clorohexidine ) to disinffectante the wastewater and repeat the examination of the presence of HBsAg and pathogenic bacteria and determine the value of COD, BOD.
5-The sample is dilluted (1:1) and treated using the same previous disinffectants and is tested for presence of HBsAg.
6- The steps 1-5 are repeated on other samples of wastewater of the labs .
The results show :
1-No pathogenic bacteria in the wastewater of this labs.
2-The values of COD, BOD are comply with the regulations set by law 93/62.
3-The values determined of HBsAg in the untreated waste are more than the positive control used , the chemicals give different degree of effeciancy in disinffected the wastewater, but Cidex resultes show the detection of HBsAg by ELIZA was not impaired by Cidex(gltaraldehyde at1%)wich showed complee viral inactivation ,so it is the best used as a chemical disinffectants for waste inffected by virus B.
