Mohamed Mostafa Mokhtar;
Abstract
Polycystic ovary syndrome, is an important metabolic and reproductive disorder and is likely multifactorial in origin. Insulin resistance is important in the pathogenesis of PCOS, but the exact mechanisms of PCOS are unknown.
The current study was conducted in the gynecology and infertility clinics of Ain Shams University Maternity Hospital in the period between December 2016 and May 2017.
The aim of this study is to assess the association between adipokines and insulin resistance in women with PCOS.
In our study, serum adipokines were measured in three hundred patients with PCOS together with assessment of insulin resistance via HOMA2-IR. Stratification of study population into two subgroups according to quantified insulin resistance, followed by comparison of adipokine levels between both subgroups were done. Another stratification was done according to BMI and followed also by comparison of adipokine levels.
