SKIN ADHESIVE TAPE VERSUS NON- ABSORBABLE SUTURES IN REPAIR OF LAPAROSCOPIC INCISION

Safaa Ragab Ahmed Sakr;

Abstract

Many methods are available to the surgeon for apposition of wounds, including the use of non-suture materials (e.g., staples, adhesives, and clips) as well as a variety of suture materials and methods. The ideal closure for surgical incisions should be fast and easy to perform, provide optimal wound apposition with sufficient but not excessive tension, and offer a satisfactory cosmetic result for the surgeon and the patient.
In this study which included 142 women admitted to Ain Shams Maternity University Hospital for laparoscopic surgery. The aim was to compare the transcutaneous suture to the adhesive tape (Steri Strep®) in closure of abdominal laparoscopic port sites, in pain, wound healing and patient satisfaction.
The design of the study is a prospective case control study where 142 were randomly allocated in two groups.
Group (A): include 71 cases where laparoscopic port sites closed with adhesive tape (Steri Strep®).
Group (B): include 71 cases where laparoscopic port sites closed with suture.
