Abstract

Although routine taxonomical works on helminthic parasites of fishes in Egypt have received a good deal of attention but those using modem techniques were scanty and fragmented .On the view of the previous fact, the present work was designed to study some fish helminthic parasites using modem techniques such as SEM investigation, karyological studies and protein pattern description.

Seven fish species belonging to six families, inhabiting the Red Sea the Mediterranean Sea and the Nile, have been investigated for detecting their parasitic helminthes . Fishes were obtained from Alexandria and Tanta fish markets during the period from March , 1991 to May 1994, while those from Hurgada were collected in August, 1993 .

The present study revealed that the investigated fishes appeared to be the natural hosts for flfteen species of helminthic parasites . These parasites are three trematodes, three adult and three larval cestodes, three adult and two juvenile nematodes, and one Acanthocephala .
During this work many fishes, were recorded as new hosts , such as:
Anguilla vulgaris for Lecithochirium jloridense , Sardenilla aurita for
