Mohamed Hosny Abdo Osman;

Abstract

Hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection is one of the most important causes of cirrhosis .
This study was conducted to assess Visfatin serum concentration and to study its relation to disease severity in Chronic Hepatitis C patients with and without cirrhosis.The study included 90 subjects who were divided into 3 groups: group I included 30 patients with HCV related chronic liver disease without cirrhosis, group II included 30 patients with HCV related chronic liver disease with cirrhosis and group III which included 30 healthy subjects who served as a control group.
Serum Visfatin level was measured in peripheral blood samples by ELISA method and there was a significant rise in its level in group I than in group III and significant rise in group II than in group I and III.
There was a positive significant correlation between serum Visfatin level and Serum bilirubin & INR. But, there

was a significant negative correlation between Serum visfatin and albumin & platelets.
