(ADULT HODGKIN'S LYMPHOMA Treatment Results, Relapse Patterns After Chemotherapy at NEMROCK (1995-1999

Abstract

During the period from January 1995 to December 1999, newly diagnosed adult cases presented to Kasr El Ainy Center of Clinical Oncology and Nuclear Medicine was 7,214 cases. The number of adult H.D cases (more than 14 years of age) presented during this period was 101 cases representing 1.4% of the total number of cases.

Out of 101 patients, 62 patients were males (61.4%), 39 patients were females (38.6%) with a male to female ratio of 1.6:1. The mean age for the whole group was 34.6+/-15.2 years. According to the histopathological subtypes, 44 patients out ofthe 101 patients were NS (43.6%), 36 patients were MC (35.6%), 18 patients were LP (17.8%) and 3 patients were LD (3%). Following Ann Arbor staging system, 14 patients were CS (I) (13.9%), 37 patients were CS (II) (36.6), 29 patients were CS (III) (28.7%) and 21 patients were CS (IV) (20.7%). The 51 patients in CS (I) and (II) were subdivided into 45 patients with supradiaphragmatic disease (88%), and 6 patients had subdiaphragmatic disease (12%). Twenty-four patients presented with mediastinal involvement (23.8%) and among them 7 patients had bulky mediastinal disease (29%). Bone marrow examination was positive in 4 patients out of 57 patients examined (7%), splenic involvement was present in 26 patients (25.7%), liver involvement in 3 patients (29%) and 3 patients represented with both splenic and liver involvement (2.9%). As regards the performance status according to (WHO score), 61 patients had score 0 and 1 (60.4%) while 40 patients had score, 2, 3 and 4 (39.6%).
