Role of serum prolactin in psoriasis

Dalia Abdel-GawadAbou El-Fadl;

Abstract

Psoriasis is a common worldwide chronic and relapsing disease with a deep impact on quality of life. Over years there have been many developments in the understanding of the genetic, molecular and cellular mechanisms that underlie this inflammatory process.
Many hormonal factors have been implicated in psoriasis, one of them is PRL which is known to possess a variety of physiological actions, including growth-promoting activity and proliferation responses of different cell types including epithelial cells and lymphocytes. It has been reported that PRL exerts a proliferative effect on human keratinocytes, PRL may therefore, play an important role in the pathogenesis of psoriasis where hyperproliferation of keratinocytes is the hallmark of the disease process
