VALUE OF ENDOSCOPIC SPINAL SURGERY I) IN MANAGEMENT OF THORACIC AND " THORACOLUMBAR KYPHOSIS
Mohamed Abd EI-Hay Ali Ahmed EI-Meshtawy;
Abstract
The aim of the present study is to evaluate the morbidity, clinical results, and radiographic correction•• following the use of video-assisted thoracoscopic techniques simultaneous with posterior correction and instrumentation for thoracic and thoracolumbar kyphosis.
1- MATERIAL:
The present study included 100 patients (60 males and 40 females). Six etiological types of thoracic and thoracolumbar kyphosis were represented in this study; ankylosing spondylitis patients (20 patients), Scheuermann's kyphosis (7 patients), post-traumatic kyphosis (20 patients), kyphosis secondary to chronic osteoporotic fractures (18 patients), tumour-kyphosis (15 patients), and infection-kyphosis (20 patients).
2-METHODS:
A full medical history has been fulfilled for every patient in the study. The Likert scale (15 points) has been used to assess the magnitude of the main three complaints of the kyphotic patients (pain, function or activity, and appearance). Every patient has been examined in the standing, sitting, and lying position in order to declare the details of kyphosis-specific or related signs. Also, a detailed neurological examination was done. 44 patients (44%) were neurologically compromised in varying degrees according to Frankel neurological grading system.
