Manar Mohamed Hegazy Abd El Rahman;

Abstract

Endometrial cancer is the most common of the gynecologic malignancies. It predominantly affects older women, with 75% of cases occurring in the postmenopausal years. The risk of development of endometrial cancer is significantly increased in women with obesity, diabetes mellitus, hypertension, and nulliparity, unopposed estrogen, and if there is complex atypical hyperplasia. Endometrial cancer usually manifests with abnormal uterine bleeding. The most important prognostic factor is the extent of disease at diagnosis, defined by nodal involvement, tumour invasion beyond the uterus, tumour grading and depth of myometrial infiltration. Treatment is based on the surgically determined disease stage and on assessment of prognostic features. Surgery remains the standard treatment for endometrial cancer. The need for adjuvant therapy is based on disease stage and on risk factors for tumor recurrence.
This study is a retrospective study aimed to describe the epidemiological characteristics, modes of treatment and survival outcomes of 215patients with endometrial cancer managed in the gynecologic oncology unit at Ain Shams university maternity hospital in the period between 2000 and 2010, the data collected from the patient's case notes and from the pathology reports in the Early Cancer Detection unit and completing the missing data from the patients themselves or relatives through phone calls or by post but some data were still missing at various ratios. The missing data were mainly in the post-operative management, survival, follow up and recurrence.
