Abstract


The present work aims at studying the relation between coronary artery disease and both aortic and carotid atherosclerosis , and the validity of using carotid and aortic atherosclerosis as a predictor of coronary artery disease.


Thirty five patients with various indications for coronary angiography were included in this study. They were 29 males and 6 female. Their age ranged from 24 to 72 years with mean age of 49 ±
11.77.





All patients were subjected to the followings: (I) Full history taking.
(2) Thorough clinical examination.

(3) Lipid profile and blood sugar estimation. (4) Color coded duplex for both carotid.
(5) Trans esophageal echocardiography. (6) Coronary angiography.


The criteria used for the diagnosis of atherosclerotic plaques on carotid duplex and I or transesophageal echocardiography was the increase of intimal med1al thickness> I mm.

Out of 35 patients included 24 had obstructive coronary artery disease .
