Prevalence of Preterm Premature Rupture of Membranes and Factors Associated with its Poor Outcome Among Pregnant Women Attending Ain Shams Maternity Hospital

Abstract


This study aimed to measure the prevalencefrequency of preterm premature rupture of membrane (PPROM) among pregnant women attending Ain Shams maternity hospital during the period (2011-2015), to identify the maternal and fetal outcome among pregnant women presented with PPROM and also to identify the potential associated factors for poor fetal outcomes among pregnant women presented with PPROM.
A cross-sectional study using secondary data was conducted in Ain Shams maternity hospital on two phases. Data was retrieved from the computer system and patient files. The first phase was done by reviewing all medical records of pregnant women to calculate the frequency of PPROM in each year during the period (2011-2015). The second phase was done by selecting the calculated sample size from the computer data base then obtaining hospital numbers of the selected cases from those diagnosed with PPROM. Medical files were retrieved from the archive and all data needed for the study were taken from the files. A cChecklist was constructed and used
