Abstract
Ascites is the commonest complication of cirrhosis . Intractable ascites defined as failure to respond by
diuresis after three weeks of bed rest with fluid and salt restriction and adequate diuretic regimen.
The different surgical lines of treatment of ascites are many but this essay stressed upon the followings :

2- Trans Jugular Interahepatic portosystemic shunt .
3- Liver transplantation .
The first of these is being .used now more frequent than the other lines , as it is the most cost efficient regimen
Also the pancreatic ascites and stenting of pancreatic duct for prevention of leakage were mentioned and it seems . to-be:promising.
