Abstract

Until recently, the therapeutic options available for medical treatment of glaucoma were limited. Maximal tolerated medical therapy (MTMT) for glaucoma usually meant a beta blocker, a cholinergic agent, and an oral carbonic anhydrase inhibitor (CAl). Sometimes, epinephrine or dipivefrin was added to the regimen. With MTMT, compliance was always suspect, because of the . difficult dosing schedules as well as the side effects of these drugs. Physicians and patients had few alternatives but to deal with these , adverse effects.
