A Study in stability of a fluid layer under the influence of external forces

Mansour Abd-EL-warith EI-Safty;

Abstract

The thesis is mainly concerned with linear stability of two interfaces s parating three magnetic fluids. The fluids are incompressible and inviscid. The fluids are moved under the influence of external forces, such as, the magnetic field and the gravity.

Our interest is to examine the effect of the magnetic fields on a thin horizontal layer of fluid. The following problems are investigated

(1) Rayleigh-Taylor stability and Kelvin-Helmholtz instability.

(2) The periodicity effect of the magnetic field and stream velocities on the moved fluids.

Chapter one is a general introduction. This chapter shows the fundamental aspects of the topic and the previous works. We introduce the main aspects of ferrohydrodyuamics stability and its various applications. We introduce the equations of motion and the boundary conditions. Perturbation equations are derived. We explain the technique followed in this respect which is the method of multiple scales. We discuss the theory of Mathieu functions. We discuss the type deferent layer especially, three-layer, and we known some research about it.

Chapter two deals with the stability of a magnetic fluid layer bounded from above and below by -two different magnetic fluids. The fluids are stressed by gravity force and an oblique uniform magnetic
field. We solve the equations of motion governing a small disturbance
