Abstract
The present work studied the effect of climatic conditions and soil characters prevailing at three governorates m Egypt (at Kafr EI-Sheikh, EI-Fayoum and EI-Salhia area) on the growth, chemical composition, seed
yield, quality of seed oil and infrared (IR) spectra of flax xylem in addition to the technological properties of particle board made from flax obtained from the three
sites of study.
The study also studied the effect of mixing flax shives with different percentages of white pine shavings and usmg different glue levels and pressing conditions on the properties of manufactured particle boards.
The main results of this work are summarized as follows:
- Flax plants showed better growth at Kafr El-Sheikh site
$
with the highest number of planytm2 , plant height,
technical length, flowering region length, dry weights of different plant organs and straw yield.
- Stem of flax at E 1- S alh 1 a site was found to be chm"B"terized by great total section area, wide xylem area and high ratio of xylem to total cross section, while at Kafr El-Sheikh
