Abstract


Two field experiments were carried out during the two growing seasons of 1995/1996 and 1996/1997 at Sakha Agriculture Research Station, Kafr EL-Sheikh Governorate, to study the effect of sowing dates and weed control treatments on weeds, and growth , yield, yield components and juice quality of sugar beet (Beta vulgaris saccharifera).


Sowing dates

•]- Mid September.
2- Mid October.
3- Mid November.


Weed control treatments

1- Betanal progress 18 % EC at the rate of 2 L /fed, applied post-emergence ( 1 L I fed at two true sugar beet leaves stage and 1 L I fed with 8 days later).

2- Betanal progress 18 % EC at the rate of 2 L /fed, applied post-emergence (1L I fed at two true sugar beet leaves stage and 1 L I fed with 8 days later). followed by one hand hoeing (at 60 DAS).

3- Goltix 70% WP at 2Kg/fed, applied post sowing.

4- Goltix 70% WP at 2Kg/fed, applied post sowmg followed by one hand hoeing (at 60 DAS).

5- Pyradur 58.6% WP at the rate of3 kg/fed, applied post sowmg.
6- Pyradur 58.6% WP at the rate of 3 kg/fed, applied post sowing followed by one hand hoeing (at 60 DAS).
