Prelabour rupture of membranes at term occurs in 5-l 0% of all pregnancies. The foetal membranes are essential for isolation and protection of the fetus from external microorganisms.
The exact etiology of prelabour rupture of membranes remains unknown, it has been related to many risk factors .Chorioamnionitis is a major complication of prelabour rupture of membranes that occurs in 1-l 0.5% of cases .Many risk factors were suggested for the development of choriamnionitis namely maternal parity, duration of latent period, duration of active l;abour, meconium staining of the amniotic fluid and number of vaginal examinations.
