Abstract

Prediabetes refers to an intermediate group of patients between individuals with normal glucose tolerance and diabetic patients. It includes Impaired Glucose Tolerance (IGT) with 2-hour 75 oral glucose tolerance test values of 140 - 199 mg/dland Impaired Fasting Glucose (IFG) with fasting plasma glucose values of 100- 125 mg/dl.

It is due to impaired insulin action with either decreased insulin sensitivity or decreased insulin secretion.
