TRAZODONE IN THE TREATMENT OF VENOGENIC IMPOTENCE

Abstract
Objective: To measure therapeutic value of oral trazodone for treatment of venogenic impotence. •
A double blind placeoo controlled study.

patients: 63 patients aged 30-50 years (Mean= 39+6.1) comP.laining of erectile dysfunction for at least 6 months witfi gradual onset and progressive course and have diagnosed venogenic impotent after a multifactorial evaluation, mcluding case History physical examination general and local, laboratory mvestigation, intracorporeal injection test, duplex, and cavernosometry. According • to MFR, the patients were divided into . 3). grcups, Mild, Moderate and severe venogemc 1mpotence.
Interventions: Patients randomly received either placebo (30 patients) or Trazooone (33 patients) for one month m divided doses starting with 50 mg per day and gradually increasing the dose to 150 mg/day over 2 weeks.
Response assessment:
The results were categorized as follows:
None: No change in sexual functioning from
pretreatment level. . •
Partial: Some improvement in the frequency and/or rigidity of erection, but insufficient to restore
satisfactory sexual functioning .
Conclusion:
Trazodone is not effective in the treatment of venogenic
impotence.
