Abstract


The present study was performed to evaluate the effectiveness of transcutaneous electronic nerve stimulation ( TENS ) in children during cldss

I cavity preparation in both primary and first permanent molars compared

with conventional local anesthesia .



Forty healthy and cooperative children were selected from the Pedia c
I
Dental Clinic, Faculty of Dentistry University of Alexandria, their ages

ranged from 6-8 years . The teeth were selected according to the follow g
criteria: I



Two prunary second molars or first permanent antimere molars with
I
lesions of similar size that required class I cavity preparation . One of the
I
teeth was treated with local anesthesia and the antimere one treated with

electronic anesthesia.



The 80 teeth were divided into 2 main groups :


Group I : included 40 maxillary molars ( 20 primary molars and bo
permanent molars), which were subdivided into 2 subgroups : I



Subgroup (A) : 20 teeth treated using electronic anesthesia

Subgroup (B) : 20 teeth treated using infiltration anesthesia
