FLOW UNDER SLUICE GATES
NEVEEN YOUSIF SAAD;
Abstract
The present study was undertaken to analyze the discharge characteristics of the flexible sluice gates.
In the theoretical study, dimensional analysis is applied to relate the different factors affecting the hydraulic phenomenon.
Experiments were conducted in a smooth rectangular channel. Gates \\-ith different thicknesses were used. Different gate openings with variable flow parameters, i.e. discharge, and tailwater depth, were used.
The hydraulic analysis showed that the flexibility of the gate enhances its hydraulic charac-teristics. This is true for both free and submerged cases.
The flexible gate has another advantage, that it reduces the cost of the gate, thus
we can use flexible gates of Jess inertia rather than the usual rigid ones.
