EFFECT OF SOME ORGANIC COMPOUNDS ON SOIL PROPERTIES AND PLANT GROWTH

Mahrous Y ousf Mohamed A wad;

Abstract

The study was carried out to reveal the effect of organic compounds, namely polyacrylamide and farmyard manure and there combination on improving physical and chemical properties of some soils of Egypt, specially newly reclaimed ones. The study included the reflection of these conditioners (organic compounds) on seedling emergence, plant growth and nutrient uptake of tomato plants. Polyacrylamide concentrations used were 0, 100,
250 and 500 mg kg-1. Also, farmyard manure rates were

0, 0.5% and 1% separate and combined with 100 ppm• of polyacrylamide. The results could be summarized as follows:

1. Water stable aggregates increased in both clay and calcareous soils. The calcareous soil had the highest values. Polyacrylamide at 500 ppm was the most effective follwed by 250 ppm and 100 ppm PAM in combination with 1 % farmyared manure.
