Abstract
This clinical thesis was done to study the serum levels of
1nterleukin-8 in patients with and without diabetic retinopathy, and correlate it to the degree of retinopathy. this study was conducted on 78 subjects, 58 diabetics and 20 healthy persons, the diabetics were insulin and non-insulin dependent disease: 20 of them were without retinopathy, 20 with non-proliferative (background) diabetic retinopathy and
18 patients with proliferative diabetic retinopathy.
All the subjects were matched the same age. IL-8 serum level was significantly higher in the three groups of diabetics - including the background and proliferative diabetic retinopathy groups - in comparison with the control group (P
