Abstract

Rehabilitation of partially and fully edentulous patients with endosseous implants for prosthetic construction still constitutes a challenging problem for Oral surgeons especially in the atrophied posterior maxilla where there is deficiency in alveolar bone height and increased pneumatization of the maxillary sinus. Maxillary sinus lifting became one of the very popular methods for augmentation of posterior maxilla especially if there is a decrease in inter-arch space where other methods as onlay grafting couldn't be used. Various substances or
materials were used to augment the sinus floor,<86 48•76> as Autogenous

bone, Allogenic grafts, Alloplastic materials and Xenogenic grafts and most of them proved successful in increasing bone density and height
after 6 months to 1 year.<59'105

In this study Bioactive glass was evaluated in maxillary sinus lifting based on the researches proving it as a biocompatible space filler in extracted sockets, large cystic cavities and periodontal intrabony defects. The osteoconductive properties and being alloplastic it eliminates the potential of transmission of viral or donor related diseases.
In the present study 6 cases where selected for the study from the out patient clinic. Faculty of oral and dental medicine- Cairo University.
