THE EFFECT OF NITROGEN CONCENTRATIONS AND SOURCES ON GROWTH AND PHYSIOLOGICAL PERFORMANCE OF CLOVER AND SOYBEAN

Soad Mohamed Ahmed Emara;

Abstract

This research, investigated growth and physiology of soybean1 and
I
clover which affected by different levels of nitrogen (N) supply. It has
included fresh and dry matter accumulation in different plant parts, ro'ot to shoot ratio, and allocation of carbohydrates ; uptake rates of clicro elements, nitrate concentrations, and nitrate recluctuse assay .

Relative fresh weight of leaves were higher than roots by increasing
1he coucc111 rat iou of n i I rogcu levels. A Iso accumu lutiou of nit rates were increased by increasing 'M nitrogen concentrution in shoots than roots. At
I
low and high nitrogen levels, the nitrate reductase activity was suppressed .
I

The micro element. uptake did not uffeet remurkably by
stress.

nitrogen

Mixture of nitrate sources were represent the high total fresh weight in

clover, but NaN03 and NH4 N0 3 were represent the best sources for high
total fresh weight in soybeun.

By increasing nitrogen supply regardless of sources, dry weight of

shoot wus increused faster than root dry weight .
Total proteins and carbohydrates in clover were increased in low concentration of the mixture of nitrat s.
