Abstract

Breast Cancer IS one of the most common malignancies among females in Egypt, accounting for about 25% of all malignancies in women.

The purpose of this study was to examme the expressiOn of proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA) in breast cancer, and correlate such expression level with classic risk factors, including tumor size, patient age, tumor histologic type and malignancy grade as well as axillary nodal status.

The study was conducted retrospectively on 55 paraffin blocks of. cases of pnmary breast carcmoma. The study population comprised women aged 27-77 years operated on, at Ain Shams Specialized Hospital. Sections were prepared for I) Histopathological examination by staining with • conventional Haematoxylin and Eosin stain, then histopathological examination, including histological typing, grading of the tumor as well as examination of axillary lymph nodes. II) Immuno-histochemical staining with Anti-proliferating cell nuclear antigen.
