Abstract

Bronchial asthma is the most common chest disease m children and may affect other body systems either due to the sequence of the disease or as a result of treatment.

Bronchiolitis usually occurs following upper respiratory tract infection usually with adenovirus or RSV. It may be in the• form of cough, dySpnea, cyanosis and wheezing which subside after treatment or may progress specially in adenovirus to form bronchiolitis obliterans.

Spirometers is a routine investigation of respiratory functions measuring either volumes or flow of expired and inspired. It can be used either in diagnostic or monitoring purposes.

Nitric oxide is an endogenous biological mediator i,n many vertebrate organ systems, involved in the functions of central and autonomic neurotransmission, hormonal release, bacterial and tumour cell killing, platelet inhibition and smooth muscle cell relaxation.

Nitric oxide which is synthesized from L-arginine by the enzyme nitric oxide synthase, remains effective for only a few seconds as it is readily oxidised to nitrogen dioxide which is transformed into nitrite then nitrate in blood and finally eliminated in urine.
