"Remediation of Water Contamination via Nanomaterials"

Amr Ahmed Mahmoud Nada;

Abstract

Titanium dioxide (Ti02) nanoparticles were prepared by sol gel method and then fabrication of Ti02 nanotubes and zinc oxide (ZnO) nanoflower has been carried out by hydrothermal method. In this study modification of hydrothermal method was performed to synthesize nanocomposite of titanate on ZnO nanoflower. The change in the structure of the prepared nanomaterials was investigated in terms of different parameters. Characterization of the prepared samples was done using HRTEM, XRD, FTIR, RAMAN, DTA/ TGA, UV/vis-DR and Photoluminescence. The observed results indicated that wurtzite crystal structure of ZnO and titanate structure of Ti02 have been obtained with well crystallinity and best morphology .The results of photocatalytic activity showed that, at certain experimental conditions, the prepared titanates and ZnO nanoflowers show efficiency of phenol degradation in industrial water but with different degrees. It was found that the prepared nanocompsite oftitanate-ZnO nanoflower, at optimum conditions, is the most selective catalyst towards degradation of phenol.
