Cleaning Ability and Cyclic Fatigue of ProTaper Next File (X2) Used in Reciprocation Motion

Asmaa Mamdouh Abd Elmoniem;

Abstract

The aim of this study was to evaluate the applicability of Protaper Next (X2) file when using it in reciprocating motion by comparing it with its counterpart used in rotation motion and with twisted file (size 25), regarding:
1. Its cleaning efficiency via assessment of the percentage of surface area covered in debris.
2. The cyclic fatigue resistance via calculating number of cycles to failure (NCF) and multiplying it with the revolutions per minute (RPM).
Canal cleanliness assessment:
Longitudinal sections were photographed using the stereomicroscope then images were analyzed using image J software to measure the percentage of the surface area covered in debris at the coronal, middle and apical thirds. Data were collected and statistically analyzed.
Results:
Concerning the change canal cleanliness in different parts of the root, the results showed highest mean value of percentage of debris was recorded in the apical part of the root canal usingProtaper Next (X2) in Rotation Motion, whereas the lowest mean value was recorded in the coronal part of the root canal using Protaper Next (X2) in Reciprocating Motion.
