Evaluation of Bone Mineral Density and Body Composition in 10-11year Old Egyptian males

Abstract


The present study was conducted on 20 male children aged 10 to 11 years who were completely healthy only presenting with minor complaints to the Pediatric Outpatient Clinic, Children's Hospital, Ain Shams University.
These children were subjected to:
1- Full history including:
a. Assessment of daily dietary calcium intake through Food Frequency Questionnaire (FFQ).
b. Assessment of duration of sunlight exposure (hours per week).
c. Assessment of duration of physical activity (hours per week).
d. Assessment of socioeconomic status according to the criteria of El-Bohy (1983).
2- Physical examination including:
a. General and systemic examinations.
b. Measurement of weight, height and BMI together with calculation of
