New Advances in Anethesia Ventilators

Abd Al-Halim Abd Al-Mon'em Ali Salim;

Abstract

The modern anesthetic machines have six basic sub systems: gas supplies, flow meters, vaporizers, gas delivery (ventilator and breathing system), scavenging & monitoring.
The first ventilators were described in the late 19th century. From the 70,s ventilators became more sophisticated with new modes & ability to monitor various parameters. Also these ventilators have the ability to add PEEP during mechanical ventilation.
Anesthesia ventilators are classified according to drive mechanism as double circuit pneumatically driven or piston ventilators.
The ventilator replaces the reservoir bag in the breathing system. The delivered tidal volume is affected by fresh gas flow (compliance and compression volumes) and leaks.
