The aim of this prospective study is to evaluate the role of 1 3 11-MIBG scintigraphy in diagnosis, staging and follow up of neuroblastoma (NB) patients. Also to assess the feasibility of using 13 '1-MIBG as an alternative therapy agent in patients with advanced or refractory NB. Twenty six patients provisionally diagnosed as NB, were assessed by MIBG scanning. Out of21 patients histopathologically diagnosed as NB there were 18 in stages III and IV. MIBG scans were positive in 16 patients, while 10 patients had negative MIBG scans. Five patients out of the 10 MIBG negative patients were found to be non neuroblastoma on histopathologic stratification. The ability of 1 3 11-MIBG scan to detect neuroblastoma lesions in 21 neuroblastoma patients reached an accuracy of 85.7% with only 3 false negative cases. In the 16 patients with MIBG avid tumours, the accuracy was I 00% in detection of the abdominal primary, while in abdominal lymph node detection the accuracy was 81.25%..•
