THE EFFECT OF NALOXONE AND VITAMIN E ON LIPID PROFILE IN 'STRESSED RATS

Albert Hanna Henein;

Abstract

The present work . was planned to study the effects of acute and chronic immobilization stress in male rats on blood lipids and to find out the possible relation of blood cortisol, epinephrine and norepinephrine levels to these effects. Also, this work aimed at studying the possible modulation of such stress-induced response by naloxone hydrochloride and/or vitamin E.

Six groups of rats were studied, each group consisting often male rats

Group A:- Which was used as a control group

Group B:- Which was exposed to acute stress: one bout of immobilization for four hours and then sacrificed.
Group C: - Which was exposed to chronic stress regimen. Rats were

subjected to an unpredictable immobilization stress schedule for 28-days. The schedule consisted of bouts of stress, the duration of each bout was 4 hours, and the i11terval between bouts was 48 hours (fourteen total stress periods). Each rat was immobilized by placing it in wooden box with ventilation holes.
Group D: - Which was subjected to chronic stress regimen as mentioned above and vitamin E was given orally in a dose of 50 mg/kg prior to each bout of stress.
Group E: - Which was exposed to chronic stress regimen as mentioned above and naloxone was given intraperitoneally in a dose of 0.4-mg/ kg prior to each bout of stress.
Group F: Which was subjected to chronic stress regimen as mentioned above and both vitamin E and naloxone were given prior to each bout of stress.
